Intro to Nose Work
This class is not taught by Pickles Playland, but is hosted at Pickles Playland.
Join Angela and her talented dog, Loki, for an exciting introduction to canine nosework! With multiple nosework titles from prestigious organizations such as AKC, NACSW, and UKC, Angela and Loki are an experienced nosework team, with Loki being the #1 Coton de Tulear in AKC scentwork as well as Barn Hunt.
This workshop will introduce you to the world of canine nosework, a fun and engaging activity that taps into your dog’s natural scenting abilities. Whether for sport, trailing, or just to have fun with your dog, nosework is a valuable skill that enhances focus, builds confidence, and strengthens the bond between you and your dog. Angela’s experience spans odor detection, handler discrimination, and medical alert service dog training. She’ll guide you through the basics, demonstrating how nosework can be a rewarding and mentally stimulating activity for dogs of all ages and abilities.

What to bring:
Your dog.
This scent kit: https://paws4fun.net/sniff-n-go-kit/ Please order this kit ($20) and have delivered before class. This is a NACSW approved kit, please do not buy one on Amazon as they are not likely to be the right type for this class.
Lots and lots of high value treats, like cheese or hot dog. If it's something your dog usually doesn’t get, even better. They will probably need more treats than you realize. You can also buy treats from Pickles!
Placemat or kennel. If your dog is dog sensitive, you can use a kennel in a room adjacent to the room we’re working in until it’s your dog’s turn to practice.
A chewy long lasting treat or lick mat for when your dog needs to wait for their turn if they cannot settle on their own.
A harness or flat collar with a 6+ ft leash. Slip leads, martingale collars, prong collars, head halters, and retractable leashes are not allowed.
The fine print:
Dogs must have up to date bordetella and rabies vaccines before joining class.
